The new British Newspaper Archive arrives on 28 July

The wait is nearly over. 

We’re pleased to confirm that the British Newspaper Archive will officially move to its new site on Tuesday 28 July 2026.

This marks a major milestone in the evolution of the archive, designed to make discovering, saving, and developing your newspaper research easier, faster, and more flexible than ever before.

What happens on 28 July? 

On 28 July, the current British Newspaper Archive site will transition to the new experience. 

From that day: 

• Visiting the British Newspaper Archive will take you to the new site 
• Existing links and bookmarks will automatically redirect 
• Your saved searches and bookmarks will be migrated across (this may take up to 24 hours for some users)

There will be no interruption to access, just a clearer, more powerful way to explore the archive. 

You Don’t Need to Do Anything 

We want to be clear on this: you don’t need to prepare or take any action ahead of the migration. 

You won’t need to: 

• Create a new account 
• Re-save bookmarks or searches 
• Update any links you already use 

Everything moves automatically. Simply visit the new site from 28 July and continue your research as normal. 

Your Research Comes with You 

All saved material from the old site including bookmarks and saved searches has been carefully migrated across. 

On the new site, these now live within Workspaces, where you can: 

• Organise newspaper clippings more flexibly 
• Group material into themed collections 
• Build and develop your research over time 

Nothing has been lost, and you’ll have more tools at your disposal as you move forward. 

Support, guides, and FAQs — ready from day one 

We know that even positive change can take a little getting used to. That’s why the new British Newspaper Archive launches with: 

• Step-by-step guides to key features 
• FAQs covering common questions 
• Clear explanations of what’s changed and why 
• Help content designed for both new and long-standing users 

Support will be easy to find, and we’ll continue adding guidance based on your feedback.
