What's a user profile?

User profiles on The Archive

The British Newspaper Archive utilises user profiles to identify who has created a collection on the site. Discover more about collections here. User profiles can only be accessed via the British Newspaper Archive and only reached by registered British Newspaper Archive users.

Your user profile automatically displays your username, how long you’ve been a member of the British Newspaper Archive, when you last logged in, and a gender-neutral avatar image. You can customise your user profile if you like, by adding a profile image and your date of birth. Your full date of birth will never be publicly displayed, instead, your age range will be shown on your profile, should you choose to add this information.

Usernames on The Archive

You will be given a username to identify your unique user profile when you sign up to the site. We automatically generate your username using your first and last name, but you have the option to edit your username should you choose to.

We ask that all usernames are between 4-20 characters in length, with no blank spaces or characters. Your username must also be unique. Whilst selecting a username, we’ll indicate if your desired name is already taken, and ask you to choose another.
