Can I save, download, print, or share newspaper content?

Saving, downloading and printing newspaper pages and articles

Whether you’re looking to save an entire page or an article, the British Newspaper Archive’s smart image tools are on hand to help.

Whilst in the image viewer, select the ‘Clip and save’ option at the top. Next, choose whether you’d like to save the full page, or clip a selection of it. If you want to clip a selection, expand or enlarge the highlighted box over what you want to capture. You can also move the clipping box by selecting the highlighted area and moving it across the page.

Once you have made your clipping, or selected to clip the full page, you will be presented with a range of options. You can choose to download a copy, which is yours to keep forever, or you can print a copy too. All downloaded images are high resolution.

There is also the opportunity to save your clipping or selected page to a collection or workspace. You may also choose to copy the image to your clipboard or even share it via social media.

Sharing newspaper articles or discoveries

You’re welcome to share your findings from The Archive for personal use, including on social media such as Facebook, X (Twitter), and Instagram. Following the steps above, you can share your newspaper clippings directly from our clipping tool, to Facebook, X and Instagram.

Alternatively, you can copy a link to your clipping and share that either via social media or email. 

We love to see your discoveries, and when you are sharing them, please:

• Include a reference or link to the British Newspaper Archive, or even tag us when using social media
• Add the copyright reference, which you can find when selecting the ‘Info’ option at the top of the image viewer
